Matte Painting Sequence

This post is a continuation of the matte painting post, where the artwork below was first created. In this lesson, I have further developed the skills necessary to make a matte painting by adding animation. To recap – A Matte Painting is defined as:  “a painted representation of a landscape, set, or distant location that allows filmmakers to create the illusion of an environment that is not present at the filming location.” To enhance the matte painting I already created, I imported it into AE in order to add movement to certain aspects of the painting, and really make it feel alive. Firstly, I wanted to […]

Legal and Ethical Considerations

Legal: relating to, appointed or acquired by the law. Legal requirements need to be met when creating a product of any sort. Copyright – images, film clips, music, logos, product, well-known designs and fonts Obscenity – Obscene Publications Act of 1959. The definition of obscene is “likely to deprave and corrupt” the audience for which it is intended and includes not only sexually explicit material but material relating to violence and drug-taking. (the film usually never gets made – stopped at the research phase). Blasphemy – the crime of insulting or showing contempt or lack of reverence for God or […]

SWOT Analysis – End of Term

This is the third and final analysis, which I have talked about in the previous SWOT posts, in terms of how it works and why it is a beneficial method of tracking progress. Even though this is the last SWOT for this term and I should have a lot to reflect on, I actually struggled the most with filling this one out, as things have felt quite static since the last one in relation to my personal development.     I didn’t really have much of an idea for what to put in the strengths box, which is quite different […]

SWOT Analysis – Middle of Term

As mentioned in my previous SWOT post, this is a good method of tracking self-improvement so this is the continuation for the middle of the term.     If you compare this analysis to my last one, I have improved well in terms of my previous weaknesses, and can now say that my organisation system is effective and streamlined, and I am more motivated to work. I think, judging from how many strengths I have listed, my confidence has also changed for the better, although I am still not able to talk to my class enough as I would like. […]

SWOT Analysis – Start of the Term

The SWOT analysis method is an effective way of keeping tabs on the positive and negative aspects of yourself, how this affects your work and how you could improve. It’s very much a way to build upon yourself from a productive point of view and enables you to track your progress from a personal but professional perspective. Some benefits of using SWOT is that it is simple but specific, which allows you to pinpoint certain things that need to be focused on, it helps you achieve your goals through regular checkup and motivates you for the future by showing development […]

Target Audience Profile

Target Audience refers to the particular group of people that a product is aimed towards. They can be identified through certain demographics, psychographics, general likes and dislikes, and opportunities and challenges relating to the product and audience’s life. A way to do this is to use market research and put a piece of production out into the public to identify who would like it and/or tailor the product to fit a target audience in mind. I go more into depth in the research I have made here on this topic. To summarise my intended audience, I have created a profile […]

My Storyboard & Animatic

Following on from my research on storyboards & animatics, I tried them out and created them for my title sequence, keeping in mind my analysis of the examples. I already had some sort of idea for what I wanted the title sequence to be, but it really helped to lay it out, see it on paper and then make an animatic. Having that chance to add movement and some animation showed me what didn’t work and what I wanted to change or add.     There is a lot that could be improved, but sadly, I don’t really have the […]

Storyboards & Animatics

What are Storyboards?  Storyboards are like plans for an animation. They allow artists to visualise their story and script and allow for more in-depth planning and pre-production. They consist of multiple boxes (frames) which consist of drawings, sketches and notes that show what is happening in the scene, and are mostly used for animation, film and tv, to make the final shoot as streamlined as possible. Storyboards are really important in saving time, money and resources by limiting any early changes that need to be made to the paper, rather than later in production when turning back or even redoing […]

Target Audience Primary Research

Primary research is different from secondary because it includes qualitative and quantitative research and can include surveys, focus groups, questionnaires, and interviews, whilst secondary research uses data or research that has already been collected. In this age, primary research is incredibly important and can be a real asset to a business in the fact that it creates a dialogue with the target audience, and builds up a bank of unique data and knowledge that can help you be well-informed about what is seen in other products, what is expected and what could draw in a greater audience. The beauty of […]
