Environment Concept Art
In order to develop my world a bit further, I have created concept art of some of the environments. The very first one wasn’t super relevant to my concept but there are still aspects that link nicely, such as the wizard figure (a mage) and the mountains, which could be considered to be the ones bordering Tillursir, the elven kingdom, so I am including it. Here are also the justifications that I did for this specific piece a while back: Now, onto my more recent artwork. In the same way as for the posters, I once […]

Age of Umbra – Poster
As a part of my production for Age of Umbra, I have created two posters. I would have liked to have completed more, and do have many more ideas, but unfortunately, I don’t have available time left. One thing I will definitely be taking away from this project is to organise myself better and have better time management. I will also be referring to the research I have done on posters, which can be found here. I started with some thumbnail sketches to get some ideas and I like them all, but I went with the first one, as it […]
Age of Umbra – Title Sequence
Following on from my storyboard and animatic for the title sequence, I created it fully in After Effects, complete with colour, sound and proper transitions. Here is the video: As always, I began with making assets for each of the characters and the castle which is shown later on in the clip, making sure to think about layering and how I was going to animate the joints. Since this was my first time animating people in after effects, I was new to the process of making a movable character, but I thought about which parts of the limbs […]
Kanban
At this stage in the project, towards the end, when there are a number of tasks left to complete, I have implemented a new organisation method into my work. I still use my agenda and lists for daily planning but have finished with the Gantt chart plan, so a new method is something that would is quite useful in this period of time, and it is called Kanban. What is Kanban? Kanban is a visual system for managing work as it moves through a process. It visualises both the workflow and the actual work passing through the process, […]
Animating the AE Camera
In film and media, there is almost always a meaning behind everything – every decision made is thought over and directed towards the purpose of portraying something/relating to the piece of media in some way. In film, there are obvious things like costume design, using certain props or elements and of course scripting, but there are also meanings behind the more subtle things, like the lighting and camera music, and some cases the music (not always subtle), which add to the scene so well, if made to seem natural, can go unnoticed. That being said, there are two categories of […]
Double Exposure – After Effects
Following on from my post about double exposure and how to create it in Photoshop, I have now developed the skills I learned by using the effect to create an animated sequence. Firstly, here are some important things to know about creating the ‘ghost effect’ in After Effects: One of the most essential steps in the method involves Alpha channels, which control the opacity, and what parts of a digital image are transparent. It is also important to understand what track mattes are, especially for me, as I would use the footage related to them most when creating […]
Legal and Ethical Considerations – Pre-Production
After doing research on the legal and ethical aspects within media, I will now be linking them to my work and thinking about how suitable my concept is in this sense. In my opinion, my show is almost completely ethical. “Almost” because there are aspects that could technically be deemed as unethical, even though I believe that nobody would consider them so. Since my show, Age of Umbra, is quite dark and made for an older audience, it deals with heavier themes and is not supposed to be a light-hearted fantasy. It is dark and high fantasy, meaning there is a […]
Double Exposure – Photoshop
Double Exposure is a technique that combines two different images or exposures by layering them on top of each other. But firstly, what is exposure? It refers to how much light a camera sensor is ‘exposed’ to, hence the name. In film photography, this technique is popular and used often, by exposing the same portion of film twice, resulting in the second image being superimposed on the first. Double Exposure is also known as the ‘ghost effect’ because it often happened by accident. An important thing to note is that both elements (layers) are visible on top of each other. […]
