Celebrate

After one year at Confetti, I have progressed and learned so much, and I am so happy with the work that I have managed to create. For the longest time, I felt that I wasn’t doing what I loved and I wasn’t developing in areas that were important to me, such as working with industry-standard programs and animating. The choice to come to this college was to change that, prepare me better for the future, and finally work on projects that I will genuinely enjoy, and it was one of the best steps I took, because I have been doing […]

Case Study – Midnight in Paris

For my project,  I will be analysing the film ‘Midnight in Paris’ using key media concepts, including Media Language (mise en scene, camera, sound etc.), Institution, Genre, Representation, Audience, Ideologies and Narrative. I hope to find inspiration in the character’s personal journey as they experience Paris and apply it to my animation, which also shows similar themes of growth and change.   ~ A Quick Note ~   I had heard of this film before but never watched it, until a week or so ago when I felt it necessary to better grasp my project’s themes. With each minute that […]

Final Products

Process                                     Illustrations       My first illustration is called ‘Ombre Aveuglee’ which is French for ‘Blinded Shadow’. I chose to make the titles of all of my media products in French in order to fit in with my theme of French culture. The name refers to the subject in the centre, who has turned her back on everything important to her. The colourful objects behind her are all symbols of the culture and in her ignorance or isolation, she is blinded […]

Production Post Mortem

Reflection In my project, I think that my pre-production was the best part. In all areas, there were certain things that went well, and certain things that went wrong, but I feel like I went into full detail with my concept art and character design, and I thought much more about design choices such as colour, general appearance and symbolism. I also love the artwork I created for my final media products (not the animation) since the poster and illustrations are to my liking, and are completed at a standard that I find acceptable for my idea. I think this […]

Concept Design

Included in this post:   Character (sketches + finals + CU) Environments (Initial ideas + thumbnails + digital pieces) Pre-Pro/ Pre-vis (First attempt + actual storyboard + animatic) Sketches for still media products (poster, illustrations)   Character   When first thinking of my character, I wanted to experiment with body type and style. I didn’t know whether I wanted to have a simple little cartoon girl or some mystical angelic painter boy and these initial sketches show how I was trying to decide. However, a consistent image of hair blowing in the wind, and a beret kept popping up in […]

Culture Brief – SMART Target Diary

This is an ongoing blog to track my progress. Unfortunately, I didn’t think to create this blog post at the start of my project, so not all my SMART targets are recorded.   ┌┄◦◡◦┄◦◡◦┄┐ 22/04 ┖┄◦◠◦┄◦◠◦┄┚   Start character concept art – draw some basic body shapes (will make up the foundations of the background characters)  and finish deciding the character’s rough appearance by drawing a full-scale sketch before lunch   Status: Complete Evidence:            ┌┄◦◡◦┄◦◡◦┄┐ 29/04 ┖┄◦◠◦┄◦◠◦┄┚   Target 1: Complete the production formats blog post by the end of the day (do NOT post, […]

Target Audience

Similarly to my fantasy brief, and to make the most relevant and useful work for the client, I will talk about the audience that I want to target and why. A target audience is a specific group of people with shared characteristics who will most likely be interested in a product or service. It is important to identify and cater to a target audience because it is impossible to reach everyone at once, so narrowing your focus to a core group helps with crafting a marketing strategy that appeals directly to the type of consumers who are most likely to […]

Production Formats

In order to make an educated decision for the final product of my project, I will be researching different production formats and deciding which one will best fit my chosen culture. A big consideration to make is the client and their platforms, audience, and lines of business, which are the main ways businesses generate revenue. In VICE, this is done through the categorisation of their content and targeted audiences for each platform.   VICE’s 5 Lines: VICE Media – the world’s largest independent youth media company, deals with the online sector (YouTube, Facebook, Instagram etc.) VICE Studios – a feature […]

Culture Brief – Production Management

During the fantasy brief, I found that scheduling and organisation was the backbone of my work, and I relied on my planning methods a lot more than I anticipated. Having an overview in a specific period of time or even a simple checklist made me feel more prepared and motivated to work, as well as the obvious benefit of knowing when everything has to be completed. I took my personal favourite scheduling methods from that brief and am using this for the culture one, as I have tried quite a few and have determined which ones work best for my […]
