SWOT Analysis – Start of the Term

The SWOT analysis method is an effective way of keeping tabs on the positive and negative aspects of yourself, how this affects your work and how you could improve. It’s very much a way to build upon yourself from a productive point of view and enables you to track your progress from a personal but professional perspective. Some benefits of using SWOT is that it is simple but specific, which allows you to pinpoint certain things that need to be focused on, it helps you achieve your goals through regular checkup and motivates you for the future by showing development in a clear way.

For strengths, planning gathering inspiration is something I can do quite well, whether it be making mood boards, mindmaps or presentations, I am able to comprehend how best to prepare myself for a task and provide everything necessary up-front. I am also a creative thinker although sometimes I can get too many ideas and it becomes difficult to filter and organise them. This is why working on paper is often what I go to, as it feels more personal – I can scribble and write out my ideas, which is not possible digitally. For my weaknesses, both are equally difficult to handle and I need to work on them if I want to create properly. Procrastination is something I suffer with on a daily basis, and it is not so much as a complete disregard for work, but rather, using smaller tasks to avoid the important ones, which causes a lot of issues in the long term. Proper organisation would not only help with this but also ensure that I have the best possible chance of success.

As for opportunities and weaknesses, I am grateful for the challenges offered and being able to partake in one really pushed me and helped with my After Effects skills. I hope to be able to try some other ones in the future. Industry week is the other exciting prospect, but with the current pandemic, it will most likely be online, which has put a little bit of a damper on it (even though I greatly appreciate being able to talk to such great people in the future). The pandemic will probably affect my productivity negatively, as it feels really isolating and harsh. My friends and tutors will help as best as possible, which is why I hope this isn’t such a big threat.
