What has been Assessed?
Recently, I received formative feedback on my creative project so far in order to give me a current working-toward grade. I worked on the project throughout Term 1 alongside normal lesson blogs and specific posts were reviewed and graded by the tutors. They only looked at one piece of work per assessment criteria (apart from Skills AC3) so we were asked to keep this in mind when looking at our feedback. The following pieces of work were assessed:
Work that was assessed/by who |
Assessment Criteria (AC) |
Case Study – Jacky |
AC1 Explore and develop investigation skills for informing ideas (Theory and Industry) |
Pre-production – Nicky |
AC2 Explore and develop problem-solving skills (Pre Production) |
Practical Skills Overview – Nicky |
AC3 Explore and develop creative technical skills (Practical Skills) |
Production Management – Jake |
AC4 Explore and develop professional skills and behaviours (Professional Development) |
Proposal – Jacky |
AC5 Explore and develop communication skills (your blog as a whole and posts where you are communicating especially well – which is why we are looking at your proposal ) |
My Target Grade
Most universities are looking for 112 UCAS points for the courses that I am interested in (animation). Those points equate to a DMM overall, which is the minimum that I want to achieve at the end of this course. However, having received distinction for every module in the previous year, I am confident that I can do the same and continue with the same standard of work or higher. This is why my goal is DDD, which I believe that I am on track with. At this point in the project, my feedback doesn’t reflect this as of yet, but I am not worried since I work to a personal calibre and my pace is different because of it.
My Working-Towards Grade for each Assessment criteria
My Working-Towards Grade
Looking at the table above, it’s clear that the overall grade I am working towards at the moment is not reflective of my long-term goal. I am currently working at a PPP which is a pass, whereas I want to be in the distinction category, namely a DMM at least. I will reiterate that this has not affected my outlook on the project in a negative way, since you can see a big jump between my criteria. The posts that I have started are at or heading towards distinction quality, and I haven’t even completed them fully, such as the case study. I have received ‘ungraded’ on the ones which I haven’t started. This tells me that when I do finish each, which is what I’m working on at the moment, I will reach that high-quality standard that earns distinctions.
My Next Steps
So how will I do what I set out above? Well, first and foremost is actually completing the blogs, since the reason I got a low grade is not because of the quality, but because the stage that I am at means I have not reached some of the posts as of yet. However, I also want to complete them thoroughly, meaning I will not be rushing and half-completing them in an effort to chase grades. I will continue working on my schedule and take the comments on each into consideration, for improvement.
For example, my pre-production work at the moment is said to be excellent, with idea generation and research easily to a distinction quality. However, concept art is missing and this has brought the grade to a ‘U’ because development for the project needs to be seen. Once I am finished and satisfied with Theory and Research, I will get to work with concepts and evidence them in my blog. I will also add more detail to the case study using MIGRAINE and add all of my scheduling methods to the production management post to show organisation and explain the methods that I am using to stay on track.
Thank you to the teachers for grading my work and for having faith in me, for the generous distinctions despite not having enough work at present. I have read your comments and aligned my plans to continue with the same quality and add more to each section in order to reach a distinction overall, instead of a pass.
