(A2) Poster Design RESUBMISSION

Taking inspiration from posters made by numerous artists for races aimed at different teams. I researched different styles and approaches for the different posters as I begin to make my own, I made a mood board to collage my ideas.

I gathered numerous amounts of posters all consisting of different styles in the attempt to maybe use these styles in my poster.

I decided to base my poster on the race in Monaco and use the pen tool to simplify the image of Monaco, this is the image I used to trace over with the pen tool.

Using the ink dropper tool I filled in the shapes I had drawn with the pen tool to keep the colours similar to the original. I copy and pasted the shapes of the buildings and the tracks and made them a lighter colour to create the impression of shadows.

I then used the pen tool to create the outline of the car and to have it on the track, I used an image of the 2022 F1 McLaren car for this and did find it a bit of a challenge using the pen tool to outline this because of all the different components in the car.

After looking at the different fonts on the other posters I decided I wanted a san serif font which looks quite artistic and interesting. I made the ‘Monaco’ the largest piece of writing on my poster using hierarchy to show it was the most important part of the poster as it is the location. I made the colour a bright orange to link to the McLaren colour but also to give off summery connotations. Under this, I then wrote the date of the event underneath this in the same font but smaller and in a lighter tone than the orange I used before. Finally for the fonts, following the theme of the other Monaco posters I put what number Grand Prix the Monaco race was, I placed this at the top in a different font to add variety and also because this is another theme seen in the other posters.

I finished the design of my poster by adding my McLaren logo in the bottom corner to show that this was a poster mainly aimed at McLaren fans and to tie all my work together.

Overall, I was quite happy with the outcome of my poster, I really like my choice of font and I believe it can be very easily recognised as Monaco.

Something that I would change is making my poster brighter at the bottom as it appears quite dark in comparison to the top where it is very bright. As well as this, something that I ran into was my mistake in drawing the car where I had used the pen tool in the wrong places meaning I couldn’t fill it with colour as the colour would spread to places I didn’t want it to however I did not have the time to spend any more time on this touchpoint to correct it.
