What Is Pixelation?
Pixelation is caused by displaying or interpreting bitmap imagery at an increased scale so that the entire area gets converted into large, simple coloured squares. It is the oldest style of digital design and has zero negative space and is overwhelmed with colour.
This can be done with artistic/ stylistic intent or in some cases to censor any elements that clients may not want to be easily seen.

Converting Images Into Pixels
All imagery in Photoshop is comprised of pixels & colour values, but we can use filters & effects to alter how the pixels merge together, creating larger stylised blocks of colour.
After sending my image into photoshop I used the Mosaic tool to pixelate my image, I could choose the cell size of these pixels and how distorted I wanted it to look.
Creating Pixel Patterns
I created a new pattern similar to creating the impression of lego bricks, I did this by using the pattern tool, a new pattern, and using the shape and text tool to make the lego pattern. Then by messing around with the settings you can choose how many pixels you want in your image which will alter how many of your patterns you will see in your image.
I liked experimenting with pixelation and although I would not use this in the current branding and advertising project I am doing I would use it in future as I really like the blurred effect it can give to an image whilst it is also being mildly visible.
