Website Design With Figma

What is Figma?

Figma is a free online application that allows you to create graphics and designs for websites, apps or general use.

The free app is something you may be interested in utilising from home as an alternative to Adobe Illustrator.

Example of Surf Shark

What I like about the design of this website is the way the designer has followed a colour theme to make all their photos blend and link into each other which makes the home page look appealing to the consumer’s eye and become more likely to click on further. As well as this I also like how they have used more photos than text for a minimalist approach, if someone did want to find out more they would have to go further into the website, a clever way to make your audience more hooked into your work. The shape that is used for the photos makes the home page look similar to an Instagram layout showing that the page is trendy and with the times not old fashioned luring in a younger audience because of the theming around it. They have made it easy to find their socials and how to guide the website with everything being at the top so it will be one of the first things you see as you enter the website following the rule of hierarchy as the most important stuff is at the top of the page.

My Initial Figma Layout

For my initial layout for my portfolio website, I used Figma to give myself an idea of where I would want things to be. I don’t want my home page to be filled with words but instead to be quite minimalistic, I have taken inspiration for this from the example I found of surf sharks with the images taking up most of the room of the page. However, what I have changed for my layout is I have placed my name in the middle of the page so it is the first thing that a person will see which is important as they will know whose work it is with the images spread around the name. I have put an ‘about me’ section underneath my name so it is easier to navigate and because I believe it is one of the most important parts of my portfolio website I have played it in the middle so it is more likely to be clicked and grab the readers attention. I have followed a near pastel theme as looking back on my work a lot of it follows through with these types of colours so by following this my page will look more appealing to the eye.
