By using the pen tool and the anchor point tool I was able to recreate the face that was assigned. To start I used the eclipse tool to make a circle, following on with the anchor tool, I was able to stretch the circle into the shape of a face and filled the shape with the colour blue. Following this, I used the pen tool to add the features of the face such as the eyes and nose. I changed the colour of these lines by changing the colour of the stroke and changing the weight of this line to make it stand out above the darker blue of the face.

Some Examples of Andy Wellands Work

My Recreation Using Andy Welland’s Style
With inspiration from the artist Andy Welland, I created my own piece by using shapes and clipping masks. To create my clipping mask I added random shapes onto my page, all of these of them overlapping each other; the final shape that would go over these would be the shape for my clipping mask. Clipping masks are good for removing or highlighting certain areas of designs. As well as this I also used the knife tool to split some of my shapes in half so not all shapes would be the same and there would be some variety. To finish my design, I used the eraser tool to add different lines and designs on my shapes, followed by me adding any other shapes on my already made shapes. After finishing my design I checked over to make sure all my shapes overlapped as this follows the style of Andy Welland.
Something I would change about this design I have created when looking back on it is the colours I have used. In future, I would find colours that suit each other better to make my design look more presentable and give it an aesthetic instead of it looking more random. Something I believe I have achieved well in this design is adding different designs inside my shapes so there is more to look at and make it appear less boring, I believe it is a great way, when used properly, to convey a message within clipping masks.
I would use clipping masks and the style of Andy Welland again when wanting to create a background for a piece of my work as I believe it can be simplistic and not too distracting but also stylish and eyecatching to the design at the same time.
