Colour theory resub

Colour theory is the art and science of colour mixing and the visual effects of a specific colour combination. There are many different colour definitions on the colour wheel like primary, secondary and tertiary colour. Colours I used on Zeph and Bartosz using Adobe Colour: Zeph has bright colours and stands out more even though he was brought up by the elves and they have more green and brown colours. I chose these colours so he appears different from the elves as Zeph is human. I wanted him to look joyful and kind and for him to stand out to […]

12 Principles of Animation resub

In today’s lesson we learned about the 12 principles, stages of animation. This is Disney’s Animators Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston guide to how objects and characters should behave when they are animated. I have added some examples where they are used in animation 1: Squash & Stretch, this is to give your object for example, the illusion of gravity and flexibility. A ball that bounces stretches when it is thrown but squishes if it hits a hard surface. Something that is lighter in weight will have more squash and stretch to something that is heavier. When you are animating […]

Target Audience Profile

In today’s lesson, we looked at target audience profiles; we looked at the demographics and psychographics of the audience what they liked and disliked. It is important to know who you are aiming your Fantasy Series for when you promote it. You should always conduct some sort of market research. What is a Target Audience? It is a group of consumers that you aim your product at, who you intended the product to be for. A Target Audience Profile is a specific group of consumers that will best respond and respond positively to your product, based on their profile characteristics […]

Design justification of characters and their background

In today’s lesson, we looked at the design justification of our characters or backgrounds in our fantasy briefs. I chose a hero and a villain character because, in fantasy, there is always a hero and a villain as it is a staple to stories. In The Hobbit, the necromancer and the main antagonist was Azorg the defiler. These were shown as dark and disfigured characters. This automatically made you think they were evil and the music changed to set the mood. The heroes were the dwarves and the hobbit, they were as good-humoured, singing and dancing and drinking. They looked […]

Gender Representation Thursday online lesson resub

In this session, we looked at gender representation in media through film/tv shows or games. We also looked at the gender representation of our fantasy brief characters. WWW: I learnt more about what gender means and it isn’t just male and female, it has meaning. And is more about a person character rather than their sex. I learnt this by researching Metroid Prime 2 and the character of Samus. Gender representation in Fantasy films, these films and novels are very much male-driven and have a strong male representation, this is true especially in the earlier films. Lord of The Rings […]

Poster Techniques Wednesday online lesson

In this session, we looked at movie posters and their techniques in getting an audience’s attention. For example, They use scaling, framing, negative space also known as black space and holding devices. I will explain briefly what they mean. POSTER TECHNIQUES Scaling: Usually the most important character or element is shown at a larger scale or size than the rest of the elements or characters featured. Framing: This is when things are grouped using positioning, lines or colour to make things stand out and be eye-catching to the audience. Also, using camera techniques & angles, low = power and scale […]

Fantasy Brief R&D, pre-production, skills and production

We have been told to do a fantasy assignment brief where we make some character designs, a poster campaign, a title sequence, and a 10-second animation for a Netflix animated series. For my brief, I have decided on naming the series “The Flame Of Oblivion”. The basic plotline I’ve thought of for this is that there is a city where the main hero Zeph now lives and he seeks to destroy the stones of desire before it gets in the wrong hands and becomes the flame of oblivion, which can cause death and destruction. The series will be split into […]

Fantasy brief

The Brief: Netflix have commissioned you to pitch a fantasy pilot for a 2d animated Netflix Original TV series or film. They would like to see a character design, title sequence and 10 seconds of animation. The Fantasy genre features fictional elements that don’t exist in the real world. Most fantasy texts use magic or supernatural elements in the main plotlines. Magic and magical creatures are very common in these. The Conventions that are expected to be seen in fantasy are a magic system where things that occur or exist in a story that does not exist in the real […]
