We made 3D Bevelled text in After Effects I placed some text and made it 3D I changed the extrusion and bevel depth in geometry options and enabled cast shadows to make it 3D I added a light layer, a camera, and a solid background to the composition I made the light move across the screen, made the camera zoom in, made the text spin

Adobe animate
I made an animation of a bouncing ball using animate We were first introduced to Adobe animate where we learnt the basics of animating. We made keyframes and drew a new shape on each keyframe We used onion skinning to se previous frames so animating will be easier I made an animation of someone blinking using animate. I reversed the keyframes at the end and I added some blank keyframes to slow down the speed of the animation. I made an animation of a caterpillar where I converted the vector drawing to a bitmap and used the asset warp tool […]
VFX Composition – blending modes and textures
What did I do? I made a title sequence using blending modes and textures. I placed a background texture behind a person and added some text that reveals the characters name. What went well? I managed to make a character name reveal without any problems as I followed the PowerPoint tutorial. Even better if? I didn’t have many problems when making this, but I could try and make a better transition for the text. What could I use this for my work going forward? This could be useful for a title sequence where I reveal a character’s name with a […]
Title sequence example
Even though I never planned on making a title sequence and did an animation instead, I made a test animation for what a title sequence could look like. I reused the matte painting I made and added a flash at the start to show the fog more clearly as the fog slowly disappears to reveal a scene. I could use this as the opening scene.
Fantasy Brief Final Character Designs
Now with shading: These are my main characters the good guy Zeph and the villain Bartosz on the right. I have added shading to the men to make them look more realistic, show light and add the illusion of form, depth and dimension. I have tried to make them look less flat and to have a more three-dimensional look. I think that Zeph especially has come a long way from the silhouette drawing that I started with.
Flame Of Oblivion animation
The blog post for my fantasy brief animation will be a full-on scene where Zeph and Bartosz are about to have a major battle in the city of men. The final animation will have music and sound effects and voice lines. This post will be updated whenever I have done more work for the animation. All 6 scenes have the fire and smoke effect I learned from a previous online lesson. Scene 1: Development screenshots: Early scene: I decided to take feedback from an online session where we showed our work for our briefs and I added a floor and […]
The Flame Of Oblivion final poster for brief
Here is my poster for the Fantasy Brief, as you can see I have been developing and making improvements to it. I have taken into consideration poster techniques that we learnt about in previous lessons. I decided to keep my poster simple as sometimes more can be said by adding less. The main object in the series is the Flame of Oblivion, (the orange stone) I have tried to centralise this in the middle of the poster, the two characters in my series are fighting for this stone so they are an important part of the poster and are also […]
Animating the After Effects camera
In today’s lesson, we learnt about how to use the after-effects camera and many different camera movements. I got my fantasy matte painting and added a camera forward dolly to it. I made the layers 3d and added a camera (layer – new – camera – one node) I changed the view to custom view 1 and moved the layers forward or backwards I animated the camera by placing a keyframe on position and move it forward on the Z-axis I made a second camera movement with another camera dolly but backwards and a camera roll to the right I […]
Fantasy matte painting
In today’s lesson, we made a fantasy matte painting I found an image from the internet and added a castle to the background and a hobbit house to the foreground. I used the clone stamp tool to remove unwanted things from the image or to try and blend newly placed images into the foreground. I added an image to the background and made an adjustment layer so I could remove the background around it with the brush tool. Here is my finished picture: The tools I used were the same as I used in previous photoshop projects. Like the orc/vampire […]
Parallax effect
In this lesson, we looked at the parallax effect which is also known as 2.5D. This is when an object is viewed from different positions and it appears to differ depending on which way you look at it eg. through a viewfinder in a camera will be different from what you get in a photograph. The parallax effect is a modern web design technique, the background of the image scrolls slower than the foreground content. This can add depth to the background image and make it feel interactive. A good example would be, look out the window when driving on […]
