In today’s lesson, we looked at age and disability in character design.

Age: young, adult, old

Task option 2:

From looking at Zeph’s character design, I will evaluate the age and disability representation in him.

For age: Zeph is 21 years old, he has a slim muscular build and youthful looks. It is clear when looking at him, he is a young adult as he has a youthful appearance. He has no wrinkles or grey hair, He is standing proud. He wears his hair shaved at the sides and short on top so he can fight easily, he has smooth skin. He wears a chest plate because he believes that speed has a bigger advantage than protection which can slow you down. He relies purely on his shield, sword and chest plate which were made from elvish steel forged in the fires of Galnelon and were gifted to him by his friend Lafarallin, to defend his city. His cloak is woven by the elves and when he is covered by it, those who mean to do him harm cannot see him.

For disability: He was found and raised by the elves from a young age. He does not know who his real family is and this creates a sense of loss within him. He has no real home to call his own.

There are no physical disabilities shown in Zeph. Though Zeph does suffer mental health issues, he has some anxiety and confidence issues due to him not really knowing where he has come from, his background. This is a worry for him as he would like to meet his biological family and find out about his history.

For his religion, Elves do worship a pantheon of gods, much as do dwarfs and men, but these Gods are not recognisable to other races. Zeph was raised by the elves and has been taught to practice and respect their beliefs.

Social status, Zeph is very much respected and liked by others especially in the elf kingdom as he is kind, gentle and caring.

Zeph is mainly supported by the elves, especially if he has to defend himself against other warriors.

Zeph gets around mostly on foot and horseback.

Age and Disability in Bartosz:

For age: Bartosz is 39 years old, it is clear when looking at him, he doesn’t look youthful as Zeph looks. He looks older and he is bald with an angered facial expression, He looks like he has been through the wars a bit. He is covered in armour and his sword is sharper and his shield and armour guards have spikes so he is more capable of surviving in battle. He also wears a helmet during season 1 – 2 that covers his face so you don’t know what he looks like under the helmet.

For disability: His face is disfigured because of the emotion stone corrupting him, and he has lost an eye during a battle and wears an eyepatch because of it.

Bartosz doesn’t have a faith of any kind. He is not a religious person.

Bartosz is mainly supported by his army, especially if he has to defend himself against other warriors.

Bartosz gets around mostly on foot and horseback.
