Production Evaluation

Animation:

What went well: Everything went to plan as I was able to make the animation on time. It’s not too long so my audience won’t get bored watching it and it is a nice introduction to my vlog. Also, it is themed the same, as shown on the posters on the walls, they are of roller coasters, furthermore, the two boys are talking about visiting Alton Towers so it fits in nicely.

Even better if: I could try making my characters look slightly more different from each other, perhaps I could change the skin colour of one of them so they do not look like they are both white, I don’t want to appear racist even though I am not. If I had more time, I would have made them not so basic looking and given them more detail and features, but I’m not great with details like that anyway. I spent way too much time designing the room and decor which left me with little time to actually make the animation.

What would I do differently next time: Try to have more time on the animation, start earlier. Because it is aimed at 18-24-year-olds, maybe it would have been more realistic if the boys were two guys in a bar having a drink and my vlog appears on the TV screen, instead of using a bedroom as the background. But I literally cannot draw anything in a realistic style but it’s my art style and I’m comfortable with it.

Overall, I think I did very well timewise considering I was only going to do one piece of production work but I managed to do two in the time. I was able to animate it the way I intended to like, using the puppet pin tool and other tools like position and opacity. Everything fitted well and had a good timekeeping.

Vlog:

What went well: I managed to make both an animation and a vlog. My initial intention was to make a vlog on its own but I was no sure if I was able to go to Alton Towers due to the global pandemic and the weather being very rainy all the time. So I needed to have aback up plan. I decided to start planing an animation. It just so happened that the weather improved and some restrictions were eased and Alton Towers became open again. I was able to go and film my vlog. I think it was successful because I was able to do everything that I had planned to do as the park was not very busy. I was able to film the roller coasters that I wanted to and even ride most of them so that I could talk about them in my vlog.

Even better if: I could have had a script to learn for when I was there as I was improvising the whole thing which is why I was quickly making my way through the parts of the video where I talked. This was mainly because I was not expecting the weather to improve and I was literally told the night before that I could go. I could have placed animated sections like I originally intended with voiceovers, but again this was due to limitations on time. I wish I could have had more time on it.

What would I do differently next time: It would have been great to of had a script ready for the vlog, start earlier, have voiceover sections with animated parts. Perhaps speak a little louder when at the park.

Final product:

Overall, I think that my production has gone well and I was able to make everything before the deadline. I could definitely see some improvements being made, but I managed to make two pieces of production work within a short time period.

I believe my vlog fits in well with my target audience as I chose to discuss and showcase the extreme coasters that they are more likely to want to experience. I think that it fits in ok with the Vice Media audience too, mainly for the same reasons as I mentioned previously.
