Netflix is an American subscription-based streaming service founded in 1997 where you can watch a vast library of movies and tv series with no ads on demand. Netflix started as a DVD sales and rental business but hurried on to a streaming service. Their target audience is the 25 to 34 age group, as it is the age group that mostly uses the platform in 2017. In 2018, it was mostly the 18-24 age groups and the 35-44 age groups. 57% of its current viewers are female, while 43% are Male. Per cent of age groups: 24% are 18-24, 25% are 25-34, 19% are 35-44, 17% are 45-54, 14% are 55+ You can watch Netflix on various devices and tablets and not just tv. People can build their user profiles to receive bespoke-tailored viewing recommendations. As of January 2021, Netflix has 203.7 million subscribers and is available worldwide except for some countries like mainland China, where it is restricted. Netflix is now the most successful internet paid service.

Netflix also makes their original series and films. Like Dark, The Witcher and The Good Place. Netflix’s first original series was House of Cards, which was released in 2013. It was a success as they used famous actors, Oscar-winning Kevin Spacey and an award-winning director, David Fincher. This caused more people to subscribe to Netflix, as they were very interested in watching House of Cards.

Netflix’s most popular series so far is Extraction, with over 99 million views. Bird Box has 89 million views. The Witcher is also popular at 76 million views.

My concept fits in well with being a Netflix original series because I made it appeal to the fans of The Witcher/GOT/Dark Crystal, which is the target audience in the brief. There are quite a lot of common themes in my concept that is like these franchises. Like it is all fantasy-based with adventure and mystery. My series is based in older times where a lot of similar series on Netflix are based, for example, Game of Thrones is also set in older times and is an adventure, where people too are at war over trying to gain control of something, just like my series where the Flame of Oblivion is the desire of man and two men end up fighting over it. Flame of Oblivion is also similar to Dark Crystal, where there is a crystal of desire and in the wrong hands can cause destruction and put everything and people at risk. Just like if the Flame of Oblivion falls into the wrong hands, it too would have terrible consequences. My Series is also very similar to Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit movies as there too is a powerful object which is a ring and again needs to be kept safe. There are also Elves and Orcs in these movies, which is where I took my inspiration from to have Elves in my series. There is some mystery in Flame of Oblivion who is Bartosz and again, this is like Netflix originals too. The age category is very similar. My series is aimed at 15-24-year-olds, so should fit in well, especially as Netflix viewers are getting younger.
