We have been told to do a fantasy assignment brief where we make some character designs, a poster campaign, a title sequence, and a 10-second animation for a Netflix animated series.
For my brief, I have decided on naming the series “The Flame Of Oblivion”. The basic plotline I’ve thought of for this is that there is a city where the main hero Zeph now lives and he seeks to destroy the stones of desire before it gets in the wrong hands and becomes the flame of oblivion, which can cause death and destruction.
The series will be split into 3 seasons, in the first season, it will be a light-hearted storyline about Zeph and his friends having fun and have their own adventures since the story hasn’t started yet and will be a way of introducing the characters and getting to know them. At the end of the first season. Zeph will learn about the three stones and the danger his world is in. In the second season, Zeph sets out on a quest with his friends to find the missing wealth stone before it falls into the wrong hands. There will be many twists and turns and Zeph learns where his true destiny lies. In the third season, Zeph and his friends must face their greatest enemy and lead his world to victory.
History of the stones:
Many hundreds of years ago, a powerful sorcerer named Straviar seeks to rule the known world and plunge it into darkness. He created 3 stones of desire: health, wealth, and emotion. When merged, they form the flame of oblivion which can bring death and destruction. The three kingdoms united against the sorcerer and a tremendous battle took place. In that battle, the sorcerer was vanquished and the three stones were split and were given to each of the three kingdoms. The Elven kingdom was given the Health stone, and they used it to bring strength and vitality to the world. The dwarf kingdom was given the Wealth stone, and they took it deep into the mountains where it became lost in mystery. The last stone: the emotion stone, was given to the kingdom of men where it lived in the king’s castle above his throne. The king used the stone to create a happy and harmonious place.
Zeph and Bartosz’s Backstory:
There was once a land named Oclaria, there was a king named Phillipe, and a queen named Alana. They were childhood sweethearts and their love for each other was very strong. They had a son, but the queen died during childbirth. The king blames the baby for it and gave no love to him. The son grows up not knowing love and is drawn into the darkness. Later on, the king married a new queen named Esmeralda, and they had a second son, who they named Zeph, and the king loved him dearly. The first son grew jealous of the second son so he tries to kill him but gets caught in the act. He gets banished from the kingdom but he stole the emotion stone before he left. The stone fed off his hate and malice and devoured and disfigured him. The first son fled north to the Shadowlands. As further revenge on the king and also driven mad by the stone, the first son pays mercenaries to kidnap and murder Zeph. They take him to the forest at the edge of the kingdom, where they were about to do the deed when they were themselves ambushed. Zeph survived and was left alone and then found by the forest elves and taken to the Elven city of Galnelon. He was taught and raised the way of the elves by Lafarallin, the Elven king who treated Zeph like his own son. Zeph would have many adventures with the elves before learning about his accurate family history and help bring peace much more to the kingdom. The first son stayed in the Shadowlands, growing stronger and plotting destruction upon the world.
I will design 2 characters for this brief: one of them will be Zeph (obviously) and the other one will be the leader of the invading army. (the villain character)
here are some slides from the brief:

researching the fantasy genre by looking at a fantasy genre film or tv show:
Here is a silhouette of the hero character Zeph. did not draw the legs
I made a 30-minute poster for my brief (not the final poster):
Zeph’s character design:
I’m thinking of making my hero character a warrior who has a sword and a shield, arm and shoulder guards, and a cape. He holds a powerful item that he is keeping hidden inside his village and the army is looking for this item so they can rule the world.
Here is what Zeph could look like based on the silhouette
Zeph’s final character design:
Villain character’s character design:
I’m thinking of making my villain character either an orc or a different warrior who had been through so many battles. They lead an army that seeks a powerful item that Zeph has a hold of. They raid other nearby villages for their supplies in search of the powerful stone, since they don’t know exactly where it is, but it is somewhere within the region. The villain’s name could be Bartosz.

storyboard plans:
This scene takes place towards the end of season 3, where the village is in flames and there are tons of fighting. This is where a major battle begins within the series.
- villain walks through flames and walks towards Zeph
- Close up of villain speaking with subtitles “It’s over Zeph! The village is ours!”
- extreme close up of Zeph’s mouth with an angered expression
- Close up of Zeph speaking while he pulls up his sword with subtitles, “The stone isn’t yours! It doesn’t belong to you!”
- extreme close up of the villain’s mouth, where he smirks
- both characters charge at each other and clashes their swords to begin a major battle.
