First, we ranked 15 items based on how important we think they are in a survival situation in the middle of the ocean. We ranked them by most important to least important. 1 being the most important and 15 being the least important. After we finished ranking the items, we were put in groups and reranked the items again, but we discussed each item and how each other ranked the items. We did this to see how well we would do in a group. After we finished ranking the items in groups, we saw the actual rankings of the items and then compared our rankings to the real ones by finding the difference. If I or my group got a lower score, it meant that we would have survived better. If we got a higher score, it would be very likely we would not have survived. Overall, I did better than my group as I got a lower total than my group. The lower the total, the better you would survive. From this activity, I learnt how to survive in the middle of the ocean by using a shaving mirror which can reflect sunlight, I originally thought it would be useless at first as I ranked it at 15. but when I realised that it could reflect sunlight, this meant that it could get me rescued a lot faster. Some of my rankings were quite close to the coastal guard rankings. I learnt that I could use some of the items as a way of signalling like the oil and the mirror which shows that there are more uses to some of the items. This is important because if I ever did get stuck in the middle of the ocean, I could use what I learnt from this activity to help me survive. This whole activity was about testing our survival skills alone or as a group.
