The techniques we covered during the lesson were writing a story following Ray Bradbury’s “The Path” concept. Where we write a story in the following order: The Path, The Key, The Water, The Tree, The Stranger, The Home, and The Wall. Each one means something in life like the path meaning the journey of life, the key meaning attitude to marriage, the water meaning the view of women, the tree meaning the view of men, the stranger meaning how you approach others, the home meaning your inner self, and the wall meaning death and the afterlife. A quote from Ray Bradbury: “In quickness is truth. The faster you blurt, the more swiftly you write, the more honest you are. In hesitation is thought. In delay comes the effort for a style, instead of leaping upon truth which is the only style worth deadfalling or tiger-trapping.”
Another technique we learned was SPAG, It is a way of checking for mistakes in your writing to make it easy to understand. SPAG means Spelling, Punctuation, And Grammar.
This helped me write a short story as I could use these techniques as a way of helping me write a decent short story that wouldn’t have many mistakes in spelling, punctuation or grammar.
It was a rainy day when I was working in the diamond factory. I was walking to work one day to fill in a form, holding my umbrella in the rain. I was wearing glasses. I reached the factory while smelling the smoke coming from the top.
