Mise En Scene

Parasite

It looks like they live in poverty, are in a city environment, and the room looks dirty. The characters are near, meaning they are familiar with each other. Their phones are the focus point. The lighting appears to be bright, and it gets darker towards the end of the room. The colours mostly seen are yellow-white.

Inception

The room looks like a hotel room, and five people are lying on the floor, against the bed, on the bed, and on the chairs. One man is standing in the middle with a case behind him. The room has a lot of light. The characters here appear to be rich, shown by the suits they’re wearing and the space they are in.

Joker

  • Settings & Props – On a dirty staircase in a city which appears to be run down
  • Costume, Hair & Make Up – this is the start of him being the joker, as he is wearing red instead of the usual purple he wears
  • Facial Expressions & Body Language – He looks happy with his hands in the air and looks like he is dancing on the stairs. The pose he is doing is quite a powerful stance.
  • Lighting & Colour – it appears to be during the day as you can see the sky in the corner
  • Positioning of characters/objects within the frame – He appears to be standing in the middle of the stairs

The Shining

  • Settings & Props – they appear to be in a room. The mirror shows two sides to the man.
  • Costume, Hair & Make Up –
  • Facial Expressions & Body Language –
  • Lighting & Colour – the room appears to be dark and there isn’t much light on one side, which portrays two different sides of the characters
  • Positioning of characters/objects within the frame – The kid appears to be near the doors and we see the man on the bed. They are far away from each other.

Cinematography analysis

Final Fantasy VII opening scene:

  1. The first shot shows a lot of white particles flying around. We are unsure what shot type this is.
  2. The next shot reveals a close up of Aerith
  3. The next shot reveals the location she is in and the camera angle is at a lower angle and then moves up to a closeup.
  4. The camera follows Aerith until she stops moving and zooms outwards to reveal the city
  5. The camera zooms out more to reveal the entire city and establishes the title of the game

This opening scene is adequate though the limitations they had at the time, which means they have more creativity when making the scene, making this opening more iconic than the one in the recent remake of the game as they accomplished this in the ’90s.
