A freelancer is someone who works in the industry but is not employed by a certain organisation. They are in charge of finding work and negotiating contracts on their own. Working freelance has become increasingly common with companies as a result of Covid, and remote access has been used to assist this.

Working for a corporation guarantees you employment on blockbuster feature films, whereas working freelancing does not. A typical day for a freelancer would be working from home using their own software and paying their own contract. You are handling everything. A typical day for a company however would be you being a small part of the company doing a job role like VFX Artist.

The similarities and differences are that you are handling everything as a freelancer and you are a small part of a company.

Companies are moving towards these because it speeds up the cost of production, allows directors and high-level managers to visualise the end product, makes technology more accessible, and accessing new trades and skills.
