Colour considerations

The colours I’m considering are warm yellow, bright orange, and electric blue because yellow is my favourite colour, and orange goes well with yellow as it’s the closest colour to it on the colour wheel. Yellow and orange both represent optimism and warmth. I think the light blue compliments the yellow and orange. Not only these are my favourite colours, but they are also the colours of my OC.

We went to coolors.co and picked a colour palette: https://coolors.co/f58b00-f5a314-edc707-15aed8-319ed8

I’ve checked the colours with the colour contrast checkers and they all go well with the text.

Fonts

I decided to go with the Eras Demi ITC font because I think the font looks formal, and the way it’s slanted slightly to the right gives it a slightly less formal look

Here are some of my first logo concepts, I decided to go with the initials of my full name and use the colours I chose above for the logo. I also tried putting dots between the initials to see what it would look like. I also gave the logo a blue outline to try to make it stand out more.

Overall, I don’t think some of the logos look very good because the outline doesn’t work very well with some of the colours. I don’t think the dots go well with the logo and feel out of place, and having it as just AD looks like ad as in advertisement and not me. In conclusion I believe it is better to have a logo with just the first letters from my name

I also experimented with the first letters of my name and made some other logo concepts on paper:

Overall, I don’t like these logos very much as I they are too complicated, they look messy and are hard to look at. They can even look like a random weird shape in black and white. I tried to add additional items on the letters to jazz it up a bit but I found having other things on the logo (people) makes the logo have too much going on and doesn’t sit well with modern-day standards with logos which are more simplistic in design.

I finally decided to go with just AJCD as my logo name because I think it’s quite unique and it’s my full name as initials. I tried experimenting with it by changing the colours around and also making it black and white to see what it would look like.

To look for alternative ideas for logos, we went also to canva.com to look at logo templates and try to create our own logos using the templates. I made some of my own here:

This logo uses the Play icon used in video / film playbacks, I found this logo creates too much of a focus on the symbol and not the letters
I tried a different logo to more blend into the background and try to focus more on the AJCD, a fruit icon though is already too famous elsewhere
This one is too subtle and doesn’t really say anything, the swirly lines do not add anything to the logo, the word entertainment is also too wide
The AJCD is bolder however the graphics above would give the idea that it is all about gaming, this I feel would create confusion
With this one it is difficult to make out the letters and it could be confusing, the AJCD is a little in the background, as you tend to look more at the person in the shield
This is better, it is simplistic and has a retro feel about it however, the games portion is too large and makes it look like this is the only area of expertise
This one is more simple and I like the use of the rainbow colours on the black background which gives a hint of inclusiveness. The logo though doesn’t seem right, with too much focus on the J
AJCD is very much in the foreground however, the large letter a would also give some confusion, what does it stand for, why lower case? I tried to give a paintbrush effect on the a to look like it has been freehand drawn but it doesn’t seem right as it would create lots of questions.

Overall I think websites like Canva can be helpful with getting ideas for logos but, with all the one’s I created I found different problems such as wrong colour, wrong focus, confusing meaning and too busy. There are only a set amount of templates also that can be used. I decided to take the learning from using Canva and would instead design my own logos taking the form of being clean and simplistic.

Here is my final logo choice:

I went with this logo because it’s simplistic and follows what modern brand logos look like today. I wanted the logo to have my favourite colours and the font to be neutral. I didn’t want to have too much going on in the logo or have the logo look like a mess so that it is easy to look at and doesn’t create confusion over what it is saying.
