VR environments

In groups, we will be making VR environments. We will carry out a group VR project where we will put together a 3D environment using Maya. We will create a 360 degree render which will be viewable through a basic headset.

Virtual reality (VR) is a virtual experience that can be both comparable and dissimilar to the actual world. Entertainment (especially video games), education (such as medical or military training), and business (such as virtual meetings), are all examples of virtual reality applications. Augmented reality and mixed reality, sometimes known as extended reality or XR, are two further sorts of VR-style technologies.

The precise roots of virtual reality are debated, mainly due to the difficulty in defining the concept of an other existence. In what has been referred to as the “multiplying of false worlds,” the development of perspective in Renaissance Europe provided convincing portrayals of realms that did not exist. Other aspects of virtual reality have been around since the 1860s. Antonin Artaud believed that illusion and reality were indistinguishable, and that theatregoers should suspend their disbelief and treat the drama on stage as fact. Science fiction provided the first references to the more current concept of virtual reality.

Examples of VR units include Oculus, HTC Vive, and Nintendo Virtual Boy.

Popular VR productions include games such as Five Nights at Freddys: Help Wanted, Superhot, and Beat Saber.

I made the first asset for our environment, some barrels. One open, one closed, and another one with a tap:

I improved the texture of the barrels using the UV editor:

Next, I will make a cannon

Almost done with the base for the cannon

Finished the model for the cannon

Textured a few parts:

Textured the wheels

Added some cannonballs

Images I used as reference:

Old Cannon Stock Photo - Download Image Now - iStock
This image because it’s the most basic cannon and it helps me know what shape a cannon has.
Pirate School: 5 Things You Can Shoot from a Cannon | Britannica
This image because it is a cannon on a ship, which fits the theme of our VR environment. I more of less based my cannon around this one.
cannonball - Wiktionary
This image because it shows how cannonballs are stacked so I could do something like that for my cannon model.
Sea of Thieves beginner's guide - Polygon
This image because the cannon has a fuse on the top of it, which I used for my cannon.

I then made a spear:

Image I based it off:

I then made a volcano

I tried using a Bifrost simulation to have lava erupting from the volcano, but it doesnt work very well as it doesnt flow like lava.
