3D Modeling – Introduction to NURBS part 1

NURBS stands for non-uniform rational basis-spine. Instead of edges, vertices and faces, NURBS comprises surface patches, Isoparms and Control Vertexes. NURBS is also created by drawing your scene using curves and then using a range of tools to turn those curves into surfaces.

NURBS are useful for constructing many types of organic 3D forms because of the smooth and minimal nature of the curves they used to construct surfaces. NURBS surface types are widely used in the fields of animation, games, scientific visualization, and industrial design.

A NURBS sphere and a polygon sphere:

I made a shape using the EP curve tool, and I converted it to polygons as a duplicate:

The NURBS feature can be used for making stuff like cars and lamps.

I made a barrel by using NURBS circles

I made a polygon version and went to edit, delete, history

I made a wine glass using NURBS by creating half of it, then go to surfaces, then revolve. I converted it to polygons.
