You can remove edges and vertices by going to edit mesh, delete edge/vertex. Ctrl-Del for a shortcut.

To fix a hole in a shape, select the edges, go to edit mesh, then select bridge to fix the gap

The mirror tool can make a shape symmetrical. Go to mesh, select the box on mirror, select object on mirror axis position, change mirror direction to +, press apply.


I modelled a teapot in Maya
I made a cylinder, made edge loops around it, scaled them out to match the shape of the teapot here:

Here, I drew a line using the curve tool, made a cylinder and aligned it to the start of the curve, selected all the faces, pressed extrude, and changed the number of divisions to make the shape more curved.


Here, I applied material to the teapot and applied blinn to it and adjusted the settings; I coloured the teapot a different colour; I added a floor plane to it; I added a skybox using the skydome light; I applied a kitchen HDRI image to replace the default skybox, and then I rendered it.
