The bridge tool.
The bridge tool is a tool in maya that is used to easily repair geometry by filling in the space between 2 edges with a face.
To demonstrate this, i constructed a simple geometry and deleted some of the faces on the underside.
Then, i selected the two edges that were opposite each other, leaving out the top and bottom edges, and went to the edit mesh menu and selected bridge.
As you can see below, this re-joined the geometry.
In my own work, i could see myself using this tool to correct mistakes that i couldn’t fix with the Ctrl + Z shortcut, and misakes that i didn’t notice earlier in the modelling process.
Another method for patching up a shape.
This method uses the fill hole function and multi-cut tool to fix geometry instead of the bridge tool.
To demonstrate this, i once again selected the edges of the hole in my geometry, but this time i also made sure to select all of the edges including the top and bottom edges.
