compositing practise

introduction.

in this lesson, we created a composition using the skills that we have learnt so far in after effects. In my composition i demonstrated: keying, colour grading, and animating (opacity, rotation, scale and position.) i mainly used the shape, text, pen and transform tool.

here are some skills we have learned so far!

  • importing and editing techniques
  • layering footage and assets on the timeline
  • utilising effects on footage and adjustment layers
  • blending modes and colour correction
  • 2d motion tracking
  • masking/rotoscope

using the keylight preset.

one of the videos that i used in my composition included a green screen background. in order to edit this out, i used the keylight preset – in the effects and presets and animation presets menu. This tool was very esy to use. All i had to do was use the eyedropper tool to select the green screen’s colour and it gave me a pretty good result that had a minimal green outline, which wasn’t very important for me to remove because i was using a few backgrounds with the colour green in them anyway.

here is the result of using the keylight tool:

here is my final composition.

conclusion

in this lesson, i learned how to use the keylight preset, and i got a lot of practise with using tools and effects i was already introduced to. im more experienced in how keyframes work, and how to animate the basic elements like rotation and scale etc.
