End of Year Reflection

Introduction

This blog post is a reflection of my first year at Confetti.

How did your year go in terms of your submissions? Are you happy with your work? If not, how will you improve?

I think that it could have been worse. For the fantasy brief, I submitted some work that I was proud of but I missed the deadline for the culture brief after that, which I think was embarassing.

How do you feel you have progressed over time – think back to September – what have you learned? Think about all sessions on your timetable.

Since last September, the main thing I have learned is how to use Maya. Before then, I had no idea how to 3D model and I wouldn’t have known where to start at all if I opened Maya. At this point in the year, I can say that I have a firm grasp of the basics. There are still a lot of parts to that software that I have no clue about, but I can model a lot of things using the tools and functions I have learned so far.

I have also learned how to use adobe after effects quite well, and can edit using a variety of tools and techniques in that software – both motion graphics animations, and vfx sequences.

How have you done socially, with extra things like trips and events – is this something you would like to improve on?

I enjoyed going on the York film festival trip, but haven’t been on any of the trips since then – I don’t really like Harry Potter. In the future, I would probably go on more trips if my friends were also going on them. Socially, I always feel quite awkward.

What do you hope to achieve from next year? grades or skills?

I think that a passing grade next year is fine for me, and anything higher would be a bonus. I am always open to learning more skills.

What do you plan on doing over the summer?

I think that I will probably start learning how to drive. I also might get a job, but closer to the start of the next academic year.

What are your plans for next steps at the moment, after year two? university, freelance, job etc.

I’m not sure. I don’t want to go to university – I don’t think I would get anything out of even more academic education. That being said, I think I would get something out of the social environment at university. I’m also not sure what I would do if I didn’t go to university. I would like to travel a lot, but i’m not sure if that idea is as easily a reality as university is – travelling would probably cost a lot of money. If I do go to university, I think that I would study film, or take a music related course – and I could perhaps find a job in either of those areas.
