Introduction.
In today’s lesson we learned about animating along a path in Adobe After Effects by following a demonstration given by our tutor.
Animating Along a Path.
I started by creating a new composition in after effects. Then, i made sure that my fill and stroke were both empty by clicking on the words fill and stroke at the top of the screen, and selecting the white box with the red line through it. Then, i used the pen tool to draw a wiggly line that would be the path that the shape i was going to animate would follow. I renamed the layer to “path”.
I then imported my images. So that you can see the path easier, I have hidden the background layer.
From there, i copied the path information from my path layer so that i could paste it into my rocket layer, and have my rocket follow the path. I did this by opening up the path layer, and finding the ‘Path1’ section. I clicked on the text that said ‘path’ and then used the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + C to copy its information.
I then clicked the rocket layer and pressed the P key. This opened the position option and i used the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + V to paste across the information. Now my rocket would follow the path when i clicked play. However, the nose of the rocket did not follow the turns as the path did, it just moved the still image without rotating.
