3D Tracking.

In today’s lesson, we were introduced to 3D tracking in VFX – also known as matchmove.

3D tracking is used to track objects in 3D space or to track the movement of a camera.

It can also be used to track complex movement.

Points are used in matchmove, just like 2D tracking, except a lot more points are needed to create a believeable composit.

They are placed all over a shot, near and far away from the camera, and then the computer works out the camera’s movement based on the distance of the points in relation to each other.
