Introduction.
In this lesson we were introduced to the nCloth function in Maya.
The nCloth function allows you to create dynamic physics based simulations – like the images shown below. nCloth is used to create things like flags, tablecloths and clothing.
Following a tutorial slideshow, i created my first nCloth simulation using two polyplanes and a sphere. Here it is shown below:
Now following a tutorial given directly by the tutor, i was able to create an animation of a cloth blowing in the wind. I did this by creating a simple flag pole using the cylinder, scale, move, select and extrude functions and then creating a polyplane which i scaled and aligned with the flag pole. Then, i selected the vertices of the polyplane and selected the flag pole object and chose the point to surface nConstraint option.
By creating a new hypershader with a blinn and a png image that i added, i was able to add a texture to my flag. See below.
