Introduction.
In this lesson, we learned about blending modes by creating muzzle flashes in After Effects.
What is a blending mode?
A blending mode is a mathematic equation including the RGBA (red, green, blue, alpha) values of two images or videos. Blending modes are used to composite the two images together.
After Effects Muzzle Flashes.
To add in muzzle flashes, I imported my image into after effects and started to change the blending mode in order to get rid of the black background. I clicked the toggle switches/modes button at the very bottom of the screen, and it brought up the ‘mode’ box in the composition window. Clicking on this box opens a drop down menu of the different blending modes. From here, I selected ‘Screen’ and it got rid of the black background. This is shown in the screenshots below.
