Introduction.
The Bridge Tool.
The bridge tool is a tool that can be used to patch up holes in geometry in Maya. To demonstrate this, I created a simple cube and added sub-divisions to create more faces for me to delete. I deleted the faces in the middle of 2 sides of the cube to create a hole going all the way through, which I could then repair using the bridge tool.
I then selected the edges of the hole on one side of the cube. You can see this below, as the edges that I have selected are orange. I then went to the Edit Mesh menu and chose the Bridge function.
Doing that gave me this result. You can see that I’ve filled in the hole, but the faces on this side of the cube do not match the faces on the other sides – I would now need to use the Multi-Cut tool to add in the extra divisions.
I used the Multi-Cut tool by selecting it from the Modelling Toolkit and clicking on the vertices where I wanted my division to start and end. You can see this below – the vertices are the yellow squares and in between them, the orange line is where my division was going to be. I pressed the enter key, and it created my division.
I then repeated this Multi-Cut process for the other division that I needed to create and now the hole on this side of the cube was fully repaired. I repeated the process for the other side of the cube.
