what is chroma keying?

Chroma Keying is the process of removing blue screen and green screen from a film.

why is green screen used?

green screen is used to separate actors and objects from their background, so that you can add them in to different environments.

green screens are also used for:

  • cost reasons, as you may not be able to film on location due to cost.
  • health and safety reasons, because you cant make someone fly through the air without them dying.
  • and legal reasons, because sometimes you may not have legal permission to film somewhere.

the colour green is used because it is the furthest away from a person’s skin tone – blue is also used if there is an abundance of green in a shot, or if you using green costumes. green does not have to be used.

magic pink – or magenta is used when there is both green and blue in a shot, or if you are filming something very reflective. magenta is mainly used by the games industry.
