introduction.
in this lesson, we created a picture in adobe illustrator which we could then use to animate in after effects. we mainly used the pencil, shape, selection and direct selection tool.
using illustrator to create assets.
we took an image to create from, and placed it into after effects as a template. from there, we used the pencil tool to trace around each set of waves, adding different waves onto different layers so that they could be animated induvidually. i also used the direct selection tool to edit some of the nodes and bezier handles of the waves so that they looked cleaner and closer to the actual image.
outer glow layer style.
to add some effects to our animation in after effects, we used the outer glow layer style to create a lighting effect as if the moon was glowing. to do this, we created a circle using the elipse tool, using shift when creating the elipse so that it didn’t warp. when this was done, we right clicked on the shape layer, selected layer styles, and outer glow, this gave us the effect, which we could then animate, or change. the size option was the most important one here, allowing us to change the size of the effect so that it was visible. you can see in the screenshot below the different options for the outer glow layer style.
