Vectors and Pixels (raster).
Pixels.
Raster graphics are a type of digital graphic that is made up of pixels, which are tiny sqares arranged in a grid to make up a whole image. Raster graphics are resolution dependent, which means that if you zoom in, or increase the size of a raster graphic made up of pixels, it will decrease in resolution and look pixelated, because youre zooming in on the pixels.
Vectors
vectors are graphics that are displayed using mathematical equations that work out where the edges of the shapes in the image are in relation to each other. This means that zooming in on, or blowing up a vector image will not decrease the resolution and make it look pixelated; vectors are not resolution dependent.
Adobe illustrator.
shape tool: crete a basic shape.
fill function: fills in the shape with a colour.
stroke fill tool: changes the colour of the line around the shape.
selection tool: selects objects so that they can be moved/transformed.
direct selection: further manipulate the image on screen.
pen tool: creates a stroke (bezier curve) which when joined up makes a shape. bezier handles allow for distortion of the shape after it has been created.
ctrl + Z: undo
ctrl + shift + Z: redo
creating BB8
In this session, we used the shape tool as well as the direct select tool to trace an image of BB8 from star wars. We overlayed basic circles at low opacity onto the shapes in the picture, and then used bezier handles to warp them to the shapes of the image.
to practise the pen tool, i used the bezier game, which is an in browser game where you trace a shape using a bezier curve.
