Websites – Content, Context and Social Links

Introduction

In this lesson, we are going to look at some important features of websites that help to establish a connection with site users. We are also looking at editing websites to include some important things for the brief.

Website Portfolio

To recap, a part of this submission brief is setting up a website that includes a portfolio of my work, some contact information, a bio and some social media links.

I have so far been using WordPress to build my website.

HTML Code

HTML is a programming language that is used to write code which the content of every website is made up of. It stands for Hypertext markup language. Some website builders allow users to edit websites with HTML, to control specific parts of the website’s content.

CSS is the other programming language that is used to code websites, adding further stylistic refinements like animations and other interesting visual graphic design elements.

Below is an example of HTML code I created. It includes an text and headers, an image and a form with buttons. I used developer tags to explain the elements of code as I created it

Social Links

Social links are important for a portfolio website so that people can communicate with you. This may just be complimenting you on your work, or even a networking opportunity that you can get work out of.

A business email might be important to have, to distinguish your work from personal life.

A contact form could be good to include too, since the website users don’t have to leave the website in order to contact you.

Social links to business accounts are vital, since it provides a link for people to view more of what you do and follow along with your work.

Conclusion

Overall, Practising some HTML in this lesson helped me to think about how a website is structured, and the kind of things I could include to refine my own website .
