Unreal Engine – Creating a cinematic landscape.

Introduction

In unreal I used the skills I have learned so far to create a desert landscape. I made the geological feature seen in the images (called a butte) to be the center piece of background that would frame a shot of the obelisk-shape (a placeholder at the same height as a human character).

These are a few screenshots of the cinema camera viewport while I was composing several different shots.

Picture of some real buttes, which are created when plateaus are eroded over many years.

In this lesson the main new skill I learned was creating cinema cameras and using the cinematic viewport.

I then used the cinematic viewport and a console command to generate these two screenshots.

Everything is untextured but the sunset lighting provides the orange, rust-colour of the buttes.
