Introduction
Reflective writing is written work that reflects on practical projects. This might be in the context of college, university or apprenticeship work, when learning a practical skill such as animation or using computer software. Reflective writing is important to utilise in written work. It creates a record of the development of your practical skills, indicates how you could develop those skills further and ensures that you are challenging your own abilities. The “what went well, what didn’t go well and what would you improve” model is an example of this.
Identify The Reflective Elements Task
For this task, I read through the following three passages and highlighted phrases and words which I think show reflection and the following steps after reflection.
In R1, the first paragraph, the writer used ‘Overall,’ to start a sentence which sums up what they had learned from the project. They then used the phrase “Going forward,” to explain what they could do next to build on things they had learned while working in a group and then they explained how this improvement could be achieved. The writer also linked the project to the VFX industry at the end.
In R2, the writer used the phrase ‘In terms of strengths’ to clearly imply that they were writing about the positive parts of their project. They then used the word ‘However’ to clearly imply that they were about to write about the things that went wrong with their project. In the last sentence, the writer uses the phrase ‘If we were to use’ to show that they have thought about how they could avoid the problems they experienced in their project in future projects.
In R3, the writer used the phrase ‘For this project,” to explain their vision for what they wanted to happen in the project. After explaining what happened in their project, they then go on to write ‘During this process I’ve decided that it would be better to…” to then explain the things they would improve upon, given the chance.

Conclusion
Over all, this lesson was important when thinking about what to include in my own reflective writing – the Production Post-Mortem that we write for each brief serves clear examples of some reflective writing.
