To recap something we learned a few weeks ago, keyframes are the most important frames in an animation that show the key points in the movement and breakdowns are the frames in between keyframes which smooth out the animation and add timing and anticipation to the movement. In betweens are the frames between keyframes and breakdowns and they smooth out the animation and fill in places where there is more movement.
Here is a practise animation I made using a chart which shows the keyframes and breakdowns:
Linear Animation
Linear Animations are where the breakdown frames are the same poses or shapes carried over to the breakdown frames. Frame by frame, the shape stays the same but changes position. I made this animation using linear breakdowns:
Proper Animation
Good animations create another shape for the breakdown frame. The first pose/shape transforms into the second via an additional shape in-between that helps one morph into another with stylisation. In this animation, I replaced the breakdown frames with squares, and this made the motion look more fluid:
