First Year Reflection

Introduction

This blog post is a written reflection on my first year at Confetti, on the Level 3 VFX and Animation course.

How do you feel the first academic year went?

I think that the year went well over all. I achieved a merit for the first year of this BTEC level 3 course – on the first brief, A1 Fantasy, I achieved a merit and for the second brief, A2 Culture, I achieved a pass.

Anything you’ve learnt from that year?

Last year, I learned a lot about 3D modelling. Before starting this course, I had absolutely no clue about anything to do with 3D modelling, and by the end of the first year I was confident with the basics of 3D modelling in Autodesk Maya. I also became confident in the basics of using Adobe After Effects to edit video and animate vectors – something which I also had no experience in prior to starting the course.

What do you hope to do better this year?

Last academic year, I was frequently late for my sessions that started at 9 am. This year, I will try to be more on time – this will be better for my own learning, and easier for the tutors to teach.

Anything you are looking forward to learning this year?

This year, I look forward to learning more about 3D modelling. Specifically, I look forward to learning more about how to texture and light models that I have created (the process called lookdev).

I would also like to learn more about using Adobe Premiere Pro to edit video, although I’m not sure whether or not Premiere Pro is covered in much detail on this course.

Conclusion

Over all, my first year at Confetti went well and I’m looking forward to follow up with a second year.
